The Department of Mass Communication conducted an interactive session in the department.The session was headed by the head of the department Prof. Subhrajyoti Kundu and and other eminent personalities in the field of women welfare.
Ms. Malati Roy councellor of ward no 1 of Siliguri municipal corporation and a women activist, Ria Dey a woman activist and asst. Professor of Gyan Jyoti college were the chief guests.
Ms. Malati Roy emphasized about gender discrimination and the levels of hypocrisy of the society towards woman. Professor Subhrajyoti Kundu added a heart wrenching example of a family of Maheshtola Kolkata where the family didn’t take the girls for polio drops which they thought would stop them from conceiving, on being asked they replied with a sarcastic tone ‘tell your government to give a bottle of horlicks in polio’s place.’ Which reflected their inherent tendency towards male superiority.
Ms. Ria Dey spoke about male chauvinism and female gynocentric where she particularly described about gender bias. Students of the department also shared their experiences and what they had faced as a woman.
The programme commenced from 3:30 p.m to 5:00p.m in the evening.Students participation was seen and a communicative discussion took place.
The students who carried out the campaign were Arpita Baruah, Amit Kr Mishra, Anustup Basu,Priyanka Rai,Devika Datta,Deepan Chatterjee.
