Kurseong, 18 February: The first office of the Kurseong unit of Trinamul Congress (TMC) was inaugurated near Dharamshala in Kurseong today During the inauguration, the nominated GTA Sabha member, Milan Dukpa, party hill general secretary, Manoj Dewan, party’s youth arm’s state secretary, Bishal Chettri and Kurseong sub-division convenor, Kundan Mangrati along with TMC activists and supporters were present.
Talking to reporters, Mr Mangrati said they have been able to open its first party office in Kurseong thanks to the support of the people for the people-friendly policy of the TMC government.
He further said TMC works in the interests of the common people.
“In step with this, we are standing by the people through thick and thin, pitching for issues directly impacting the people’s interests. People are supporting us spontaneously as they realise we espouse their cause in the true manner,” he said.
He stressed the Hill people must get out of their cloister limited to the Hills and must play pro-active roles in the state as well as in the national spheres of the country.
“After the 2014 general election, our party would be poised to decide the formation of the next government. We ask the Hill people to throw their weight behind us to make their presence felt in the national-level politics,” he said.
However, the TMC has remained riven in factionalism as two different groups ~ one loyal to All India TMC and the other to the Hill TMC ~ have been functioning here, often at cross purposes.
The differences came to light even today as the Hill Trinamul Congress stayed away from the inauguration of the party office. However, both the groups claim they are working in the interests of the party in the Hills, rallying the people behind the leadership of Mamata Banerjee.
