Subhomoy Chatterjee is one of the most well known and recognized faces of #Gorkhaland andolan. He was a Municipal councillor till a few months back. But yesterday, he unveiled the literarure side of his.
The occasion was the unveiling of his book “Sampriti Express” a work of translation, the event was graced by the presence of renowned literary figures and politicians from our hills.
The book ‘Sampriti Express’ contains the translation of popular Nepali stories written by legendary Nepali writers like Dr. Indra Bahadur Rai, Krishna Singh Moktan, Rita Thakuri etc.
Speaking at the occasion, Mr. Chatterjee said, “one of the main reasons why Nepali literature has not found prominence in India is because the audience is very limited… its like our damphu… the sound of which, though mesmerizing, is confined to our hills… so this translation of stories from Nepali to Bengali is an attempt to reach out to a larger audience…”
Mr. Chatterjee further stated, “it is the duty of all hill dwellers to share our literature and culture with the rest of the world… and if today anyone asks me what ethnicity do I belong to, I proudly say, I am a Gorkha Bengali… I am deeply associated with Nepali literature and culture… and it is high time we made others aware of our region.”
