Born and brought up in Darjeeling, Chowrasta is her threshold. A simple girl from Darjeeling unexpectedly won Miss Darjeeling 2010 and is expected to represent Darjeeling in Femina Miss India 2011. A brilliant 2nd year B.A student of South Field College, who scored 87% in ISC, she has now become the reigning beauty queen of the town. Mingma Doma Bhutia, 5’.7” tall and gorgeous, now aspires to explore the wonderful possibilities that life has to offer and is determined to work for the progress of her hometown.
DT: What was your immediate reaction when your name was announced as a winner?
MDB: I was really shocked as I had not expected that I would win the Title. All of us were sure that Palpasha Pradhan, one of the contestants, who was more experienced in the modeling field would win. We were not professionals like her, so when they announced my name as the winner I was really surprised.
DT: What inspired you to join that event?
MDB: There was no inspiration as such. It was just an impromptu decision I made because none of the students from our college was participating in the contest.
DT: What was the response from your family in regard to join the Beauty pageant?
MDB: When I told my dad and my family about my decision to participate in the beauty contest, they encouraged me. They have always supported me and have encouraged me to gain good experience from whatever I choose to do in life.
DT: Do you think that this event will change your objective of your life?
MDB: I don’t think so, I would want to continue with my education as it is my priority and I also plan to appear for Competitive exams. However, I have always aspired to be an Airlines crew since childhood.
DT: Would you like to continue modeling?
MDB: Yes, I would also like to continue in the fashion and glamour world because I have realized my potential in the field. I would like to experience possibly everything because in life one has to have many experiences to know what is in them and what they can do in future.
DT: I was told that you had beautifully answered the question on womanhood during the Show?
MDB: The question was “Define Womanhood” and firstly, I quoted Mary Ward’s word, who was the founder of Loreto Convent. She had once said “women in time could do much”. Women in present times are not restricted within the household activities, their priority is on education and they strive to work beyond their ability, that’s how she opened the school in Darjeeling. I guess, her lines were perfect for my definition.
DT: What was the response from your friends and known people?
MDB: Very good, actually my friends always encouraged me to join the fashion world because of my height, they always appreciated my height. Now they are telling me to use the opportunity that I am getting.
DT: Do you think now you have responsibility towards your society or place?
MDB: Yes, absolutely. Our society I guess, is more orthodox to the Fashion world because people think it is short lived, they do not give priority to extra curricular activities, rather parents force the child to study, and to opt for a job as soon as possible. But I want to represent Darjeeling, my home town everywhere I go and I want do something for my society. Now, my wish is to represent Darjeeling on the national level because I really love my home town Darjeeling.
