LADY FROM SONADA RESCUED FROM GURGAON HOSPITAL – Thanks to Mr. Ajay and friends, Mr. Kiran BK, GYASA and Darjeeling MP
Around 5 P.M yesterday we got a message from Mr. Kiran B K via Delhi Police for North East Folks, informing us about how a lady from Sonada was made to serve in the hospital following her sickness.
The incident reported was as follows:
“Pushpa from Sonada who was staying in Chakkarpur alone, got ill due to liver problem and her neighbours took her to a private Shiva hospital near Bus Adda in Gurgaon. She was admitted there for 3 – 4 days and was discharged almost 3days back. But she didn’t have any money to pay for her hospital expenses and she didn’t have anybody to help her as well.
Following her treatment, the hospital people forced her to do housekeeping at the hospital itself, including washing clothes, cleaning the hospital at night shift and she was also made to sleep on the floor.
What was most tragic was that she is not physically fit to work, as she was still recovering from her illness, but she did not have any option or anyone to call on. The bill amount was only around 12000/-”
When Jt. Commissioner Mr. Robin Hibu, head of the Delhi Police for North East Folks heard of the incident, he was infuriated, as what the hospital had done was a criminal act. He informed us that this was not the 1st such case, and that there were many such cases reported to his unit on an almost daily basis. He offered to help and called up Gurgaon Commissioner of Police to ensure that the lady was released at once from the hospital.
Once we all came to know about the incident, volunteers at Gorkha Youth and Students’ Association of India – GYASA started to collect funds, and we at TheDC also reached out to a few people, we felt would help.
In the process of reaching out when we appealed to GJM Delhi Unit Chief Manoj Shankar and asked him to provide financial assistance since the amount was only Rs 12000/- his comment was disappointing to say the least, here is the transcript of the conversation:
TheDC: “Daju GJM Delhi le help garcha ki gardaina?”
Mr. Manoj: “Try garchu… phone number dinu”
TheDC: “Daju 12000/- khali ho… tyesti ta manage garnu saknu parne ho tapai haru le”
Mr. Manoj: “Kos kos lai pani money help garnu?”
We were taken aback, so we asked
TheDC: “Aru koslai garnu bhako chha tapai haru le?”
Mr. Manoj: “Kati ho kati nee”
TheDC: “Please give details”
Mr. Manoj: “Timilai list pathau chu”
TheDC: “Aso contact num bers if possi ble so that we can verify, huncha thank you
Mr. Manoj: “1991 dekhi aaj sammaaa”
TheDC: “Sure why not, as much details as possible… 1970s dekhin dinda pani huncha”
Following this sad conversation, we stopped communicating with Mr. Manoj and forwarded the request for help to senior GJM leader Mr. Binoy Tamang.
Mr. Tamang assured us, “I will see to it.”
Sadly nothing came out of it.
We had also contacted another senior GJM functionary who is travelling with Mr. Bimal Gurung and is in Delhi, he did not even bother to respond to our request.
In the meanwhile GYASA members has started a collection already, and around Rs 10000 had been pledged towards rescuing Pushpa
Thankfully by then Mr. Kiran BK had already contacted our Hon’ ble MP Mr. SS Ahluwalia, as soon as Mr. Ahluwalia heard of the incident he offered to pay the due fees. He got the details from Mr. Kiran BK and called the hospital immediately.
Explaining the situation Mr. Kiran said, “I had a word with MP SS Ahaluwalia sir and he had a word with hospital authority and said the amount will be paid by him only… now Pushpa is discharged and went back home by ambulance provided by hospital only.”
At the end, all that it took for Pushpa to get out of the bondage, were a few responsible and caring individuals standing together to help her.
Mr. Kiran accompanied by GYASA members Dilbu, Dilip, Arjun and Manika had went to Pushpa’s home in Chakkerpur Gurgaon. Manika reported, “we got to learn from her that she had been living in a rented room and work in Sohna Road. She is now in good health. We have assured her of all possible help and we handed over her some financial assistance.”
Once again, when our CHELI was in Distress, it was our MP who is a non-Gorkhali, who happened to stand by her… while our own “Gorkhali” representatives shrieked from their responsibilities.
We are most THANKFUL to Mr. Ajay and his group of friends who had been taking care of Pushpa and brought the matter to the attention of Mr. Kiran BK.
We share our GRATITUDE to Mr. Kiran BK who went out of his way to help our Cheli in need.
We are THANKFUL to GYASA and their members for standing up for our people and being that ray of hope when all avenues of help shut down for the Gorkhalis.
Most important of all WE THANK OUR MP SS Ahluwalia SIR, who has time and again gone out of his way to provide assistance to our people in need. Our MP has shown his personal connection with the common people in need, and we are most grateful to him for being the true representative of the people, who is always there whenever we have needed his help.
It is sad that those Gorkhalis who could have helped and should have helped, didn’t do anything – today when you guys tie RKAHI from your sisters or wish her on the occasion, please do reflect on how you guys let one of our sisters down. May be next time it will inspire you to help someone in need.
This incident is also a lesson for everyone living in Delhi, Gurgaon and NCR region… you never know when you might need the help, support and assistance from our community or when you may be able to help someone from our community in need… so we request you to join GYASA which is a purely non-Political organization working towards ensuring the welfare of our people in Delhi, Gurgaon and NCR region.
United we are invincible… please join hands to make a stronger Gorkhali community.
