Mukesh sharma, Kalimpong 10 APRIL: One 14 year girl was allegedly raped at Durpin area in Kalimpong last evening.It was learnt that one Sarika (14)(name changed), resident of Alaichikhop, under Bhalukhop gram panchayat area had left home to visit Kalimpong town to buy medicine. Later, while returning home on foot, a maruti van driver, Karan Roka offered her a ride home and after much cajoling he finally succeeded. On the way he gave her intoxicants and then drove the girl to a place five kilometer out of town near Durpin where the driver called three more persons from a monastery to board the van. Later at a jungle near Durpin the girl was allegedly brutally raped by the four persons.

A minor girl committed suicide at the residence of a child development project officer (CDPO), Darjeeling. The 15 year old was under the guardianship of CDPO Tshering Doma Bhutia for more than 10 years.

06 April 2013: Shri Pranab Mukherji, the President of India has nominated Prof Mahendra P Lama, the Founding Vice Chancellor of Sikkim University to the prestigious Executive Council of North Eastern Hill University in Shillong. This nomination by the Visitor of the North Eastern Hill University, a central university established in 1973  has been communicated by the University official. The Executive Council is the highest decision making body of NEHU and makes policy decisions on various activities and functions of the University.

Mukesh Sharma, Kalimpong, April 04: Nanita Gautam, a founder member of the Kalimpong Gorkha Janmukti Naari Morcha and a member of the Naari Morcha Core Committee today publicly announced her resignation from the party. Gautam who had submitted her resignation to the party on April 02, 2013, while explaining her reasons for quitting the party said that she is facing health issues.

GANGTOK, 1 APRIL: Few days after the Sikkim Chief Minister, Mr Pawan Chamling, said Nepali-speaking Indian citizens are being muddled with Nepalese citizens because of the 1950 Indo-Nepal friendship treaty, the Akhil Bharatiya Nepali Bhasha Sangharsh Samiti (ABNBSS) today said the Chamling government ignoring the issue has led to the ‘identity crisis’ having compounded.
