The 132-year-old Darjeeling Himalayan Railway (DHR), the country's only railway line which is a World Heritage Site, may be labelled as an "endangered site" by the Unesco, if nothing is done by India soon.

Aimed at empowering students in a first of its kind initiative, Students Against Trafficking (SAT) Clubs were opened up in 6 schools in Darjeeling.

"Students are highly vulnerable to human trafficking and on the other hand they have excellent outreach in society. Student voice is strong and effective. Hence we decided to empower students so that they can take up this important task of spreading anti-trafficking awareness," stated Nirnay John Chettri, general secretary of MARG - an NGO working in the anti-trafficking arena. The SAT clubs are a joint initiative of MARG and the Darjeeling Police.

Darjeeling 24 April: After conducting a raid by the cyber crime cell branch of CID, one Mahendra Pradhan, alias Meizz Pradhan was arrested from his home, yesterday, at second mile Sevoke Road, for committing a cyber crime.

The complaint was lodged by a girl on October 2012 whom he tried to malign, hacking her social networking account and uploaded obscene photographs and videos following a refusal to his proposal. She lodged a complaint at the Ghoom-Jorebunglow police station after finding her account hacked for the filthy purpose said Assistant Public Prosecutor Mr Pankaj Prasad

SILIGURI, 24 APRIL: The GTA representatives would demand immediate transfer of departments/establishments to the Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA) during a meeting with the state Chief Secretary, Mr Sanjay Mitra, at Writers’ Buildings slated on 30 April.
