The Mount Everest, Darjeeling, an Oberoi Group hotel, may resume its operation after normalcy has been restored at the hills following years of conflict. The Oberoi Group, however, has no immediate plans to construct any new property in West Bengal.
“If normalcy sustains in Darjeeling, we may resume operations of our property there,” EIH Limited vice-chairman S.S. Mukherji said.
The Mount Everest, Darjeeling, was acquired by the Oberois and it was the most premium hotel in the hills. However, long years of unrest had decreased the tourists flow to the hills, forcing the group to suspend the operations of The Mount Everest, Darjeeling in 1985. Now with normalcy back in the hills after the formation of the GTA, the Oberois may resume operations of its premium property there.
