One of our readers Mr. Nirvigya A Chettri had a narrow escape yesterday, and he wrote to us, in the hopes that this post will help save lives in the future.
“Today at 3 pm, while I was riding towards Singamari I nearly collided with a Mahendra Pick Up near Hooker road. As the car ahead of me (pick up) was in a steady speed, I didn’t bother to over take the car, but suddenly the driver applied a harsh brake WHERE THE BRAKE LIGHTS DID NOT FLASH, which forced me to apply a hard brake where my rear tyer locked up and I had a near fall.
Now, the real thing is not about the driver applying a sudden brake, he may have done that due to an emergency reason or whatever, but the thing is that there were no warning brake lights for whoever is riding or driving behind him which is very very dangerous.
I’ve noticed this in many other taxi/private vehicles as well, these things are highly neglected by the owner of the vehicle and the authority and especially during winter time where the road conditions are cold and slippery this kind of negligence can lead to some serious injuries or even dead—God forbid.
So this is a request to the Traffic Authority of Darjeeling to check these minor defaults in every vehicles which can have a disastrous outcome. I believe precaution is better than cure. This is not just for me but for everyone. Together we can!”
