Yesterday, a local daily Himalaya Darpan published this employment opportunity, and as soon as people got to see it, they flooded us with complaint.
The advertisement reads, “candidates must have the ability to read, write and speak in Bengali (not applicable to those candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali.)”
Most complaining were outraged, as some over gyaani folks shared posts in social media saying that “those whose mother tongue is Nepali cannot apply”
But this is not the case.
All this advertising is telling us is that, while the ability to read, write and speak in Bengali is a must for everyone else, but those whose mother tongue is Nepali, they are exempted from that requirement.
This is perhaps for the 1st time that those whose mother tongue is Nepali have been completely exempted from knowing Bengali all across Bengal and not just in the hills, and instead of being thankful we are outraging, just because some “BUDDHU-jiwis” didn’t understand English better.
What is more worrisome is the fact that this advertisement literally cuts off all those people whose mother tongues are not Bengali or Nepali… what happen’s if someone doesn’t know either of the languages, are they ineligible to apply? Do outrage, but not because it leaves out Nepalis, but because other than Nepali and Bengali speaking people, it leaves out everyone else… which is grossly unfair.
Which is why we always insist….
अपनी अकल लगाओ folks… and please help spread the word and APPLY for the post.
