Because of the fear of defeat, Gurung is resorting to social networking sites and seeking DDUDF founder Mahendra P Lama’s support, he added.
Claiming the DDUDF has interacted with people in more than 100 village and town areas across Darjeeling over the past five months on Lama’s 25-point election agenda, Rai said, “Of all agendas, the formation of a separate state is the primary one and having understood the vision of the DDUDF, the people have expressed their preference for Dr. Lama.”
He further stated that around 70 per cent of the hill electorate will vote for Lama and this has made the GJM chief restless.
“A BJP candidate was elected to Parliament in the past too from Darjeeling, but people know that not even a fraction of their aspiration has been realised. Voters have already tasted the bitter betrayal by the BJP and will not repeat the mistake again,” said Rai.
The Mirik branch of the DDUDF is also busy with preparations for the March 30 public meeting slated here. Apart from Lama, All India Gorkha League general secretary Pratap Khati, Gorkhaland Rajya Nirman Morcha president Dawa Pakhrin, Bharatiya Gorkha Parisangh national president Enos Das Pradhan and DDUDF spokesperson P Arjun will address the public rally, informed DDUDF sources.
