Mamata Chakraborty from Kolkata shares her saddest incident of her life held in Kalimpong recently… she writes:
I wanted to share this incident with a wider audience – we all know medical treatment is a challenge and everyone living in these beautiful hills face it as a part of life – maybe someday authorities will wake up to reality and do something about it. Meanwhile, all we can do is share these unfortunate incidents as they happen and live with the pain of loved ones lost…
Friends,
I would like to post my terrible loss which took place on February 11, 2017 at Kalimpong, where we were on our special trip to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary. This incident has changed my entire life.
When we plan for a holiday, we look for the place, hotels, sight-seeing, air fare or train fare, but the most important thing we never keep in mind that is the emergency medical assistance. That’s how while selecting the favourite place to celebrate 40 years anniversary we missed about hospital issue, thought Kalimpong being such a famous tourist spot, there must be a proper health centre – MY GREATEST MISTAKE.
We were booked with Sinclair Kalimpong. From late evening my husband was having little breathing problem, Sinclairs helped me to take him to the nearest hospital, but there was nothing which could give slightest relief to my husband. The doctor on duty did nothing other than filling up the forms of our detail. Out of frustration I was screaming for oxygen, sorbitrate tablet nebulizer because my husband was suffering from unbearable restlessness. In front of my eyes my husband had passed away within 15 minutes without any treatment.
Hotel manager helped me to get an ambulance, I left Kalimpong with my husband’s lifeless body at 2 pm from Kalimpong and reached Kolkata on February 12, 7 pm. My 40th anniversary turned into a terrible nightmare which I can never forget in my life, it’s so traumatic.
I tried to contact the news channels , I have no political issues, just wanted to share my experience, so that this kind of incident doesn’t happen with anyone, wanted for an awareness, but don’t know why the channels are not responding.
Awaited for 3 weeks, now finding no other way sharing with you all, not for any sympathy towards me but just for you all, whenever you plan a holiday before selecting hotels check about the medical assistance first. Please please please share this with as many people as possible.
[YES, NOT ONLY KALIMPONG, ENTIRE DARJEELING HILLS SEVERELY LACK BASIC HEALTH TREATMENT.
WE ARE EXTREMELY SORRY AND PRAY GOD TO GIVE MAMATA CHAKRABORTY COURAGE. MAY THE DEPARTED SOUL REST IN PEACE.]
